Fishing Report 7-11-04
Lake Sabrina

Submitted by Patti Apted

Well, it’s finally happened – the fishing has slowed down, but just a bit. There still seems to be a lot of fish coming out, but anglers are having to display a bit more patience and are working a bit harder for a stringer.

The inlet, at last, gave up a few larger fish this past week. The ticket at the inlet was worms, PowerBait and jigs. Trolling worms, wooly-buggers and super dupers produced a number of limits. Mosquitoes are your best bet for fly fishing in the mornings and evenings.

Eddie Hammer of Norco landed a 1-1/2# Rainbow on PowerBait, while Max Denembo of Fountain Valley caught his first fish this past week. Jake Chapman of Lakewood hooked a 1-3/4# pounder on a nightcrawler. Steve Wells of Rancho Cucamonga caught a 2# Rainbow, while Dave Moore of Rancho Cucamonga landed a 3-3/4 pounder – both at the inlet and both on nightcrawlers.

The lake is stocked on a regular basis by the Department of Fish and Game. Once again, the DFG stocked on Friday, July 9th with pan-size rainbows along with 25 trophy-size trout. And the wait continues for a stocking permit from the DFG to be able to stock from a private hatchery – Alper’s Ranch.

REMEMBER THE REPELLANT; the skeeters are still here at least till the end of July. The temperatures have remained constant with the highs in the high 60s to the low 70s and the lows in the high 40s to low 50s with a bit of a breeze on the lake in the afternoons so don’t forget a jacket. Keep in mind, you are in the mountains and the weather can change in a blink of an eye. Also, don’t forget the sunscreen.

Hope to see you soon - Patti
